This two-day workshop will cover the methods behind all of my folding work.
You will fold several models, some under strict instructions, others
more freely.
You will learn how to effectively fold pleats, compose sequences that
interact in interesting ways, creating both two- and three-dimensional
patterns. You will learn how to simulate weaving by folding and how to
fold seemingly impossible curves. The final project will
be a pleated vessel decorated with your own (folded) surface design patterns.
I will provide paper suitable for the particular models and some extras.
You'll take home your work and handouts with explanations and diagrams.
Topics:
- Alternating pleats: folding them, thinking about them, how they work
- Pleat rearrangement and weaving simulation
- Non-aligned and free pleats
- Twisted pleats
- Curves over pleats
- Forming vessels from pleated ground
Examples of models you'll understand and be able to fold after this workshop:
Some folding experience may be useful, but is not strictly necessary.
Openness to somewhat repetitive work
is more important.
